Whales are mammals because they breathe by using their lungs. They take air in and blow it out through their blow hole at the top of their head. They can blow water so high that it can go up to 10 metres high. Whales can breathe under water for one whole hour.
Whales give birth to live babies not eggs. The baby whales have oily soft smooth skin.
There are two groups of whales. There is one group called Baleen Whales because they do not have teeth. They have bristles. They can eat up to 8 tonnes of food per day. The other group of whales have teeth and they eat lots and lots of food as well. They eat dolphins and seals. Baleen whales eat small sea animals that they just swallow.
Whales communicate to each other by clicking, squeaking and thumping. They talk to each other to warn each other if boats are coming.
